The Velvet Underground: A Documentary Film di Todd Haynes – Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack è la colonna sonora del documentario (Apple Original), The Velvet Underground, presentato in anteprima mondiale al Festival di Cannes il 7 luglio 2021 e distribuito il 15 ottobre 2021 da Apple TV+.

La colonna sonora – curata dallo stesso regista del documentario, Todd Haynes, e dal supervisore musicale Randall Poster – si compone di 2 CD contenenti sia brani famosi che rari dei Velvet Underground (una delle band più influenti, nata dalle avanguardie musicali, artistiche e cinematografiche della New York City dei primi anni ’60) come “Sunday Morning”, “All Tomorrow’s Parties”, “Pale Blue Eyes”, “I’m Waiting for The Man” e “Sweet Jane”, così come la versione mono di “Heroin” e la rara “Foggy Notion”. Sono presenti anche versioni dal vivo di “After Hours” e “Sister Ray”, “Chelsea Girls” di Nico e “The Ostrich” dei Primitives, una delle prime band formate da Lou Reed e John Cale.

Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack contiene anche brani di artisti che hanno influenzato i Velvet Underground, tra cui la versione live di “Road Runner” di Bo Diddley, “The Wind” un classico doo-wop dei The Diablos con Nolan Strong e la composizione inedita di La Monte Young, “17 XII 63 NYC The Fire Is A Mirror (estratto)”, eseguita da The Theatre of Eternal Music.
